We need your help to get out the word! We have a resilient network of individuals within the Upper Darby community who support Brad’s legacy, but we need people outside our area to understand his message: that arts education needs more funding, and that adults who inspire youth create a whole new generation of inspiring individuals.
The Brad Schoener Fund, sponsored by the Upper Darby Arts and Education Foundation, is seeking dynamic individuals to join our highly dedicated team. We aim to promote the legacy of Brad Schoener, a music educator in the Upper Darby School District, who battled a deadly cancer and inspired thousands of students to overcome obstacles to fulfill their dreams. Brad’s vision was to give every child in the Upper Darby School District the opportunity to play a musical instrument and to support talented young musicians by funding private instruction with professional musicians. He also recognized the importance of physical fitness against all odds, and ran triathlons while battling his illness. Over the past three years, we have united our community around two common beliefs: 1) music improves the quality and effectiveness of education, and 2) when adults and music are actively present in the lives of children, anything is possible.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Learn/assist in writing press releases and media advisories
• Assistance in implementation of publicity events and initiatives
• Learn to oversee the compilation of media coverage
• Updating and maintaining social media and web presence

• Providing support at special events
• Perform all other duties/responsibilities as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
• Strong writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills
• Passion for the organization’s mission of service
• Public Relations, Communications, or Marketing major
• Professional presence
• Highly organized and good time manager
• Enthusiastic and outgoing
• Self-‐starter, with the ability to work independently and meet stated deadlines
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must be seeking an internship for class credit as a prescribed part of curriculum (Students will
be required to submit documentation from their school.)
• No financial compensation is available, housing and transportation are the responsibility of the
student.
• Hours are to be determined but can be somewhat flexible.

Time to donate “Uncle Harry’s old trumpet” that is sitting in your attic! Or sell the instrument that your college student isn’t using any more! The young musicians of Upper Darby will benefit!
Donate an instrument directly to the Schoener Music Fund (and receive a letter for charitable tax donation) OR sell your instrument on consignment that day — 20% goes to the Music Fund; 80% comes home to you! All appraisals will be done by Zeswitz Music instrumental specialists on the day of the Music Marathon!

The Second Annual Brad Schoener Music Marathon will take place on June 12, 2010, and will now feature a 5k Walk/Run in the morning. The 5k Walk/Run is scheduled to start at 10 am in Arlington Cemetery, across the street from the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.
The Music Marathon will start as the 5k concludes, and will run from 1:00pm to 9:00pm at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center.

** NEW THIS YEAR** – Registration and race number pick up will also be available at Arlington Cemetery, (Toppitzer’s Funeral Home building; 2900 State Road, Drexel Hill PA 19026) on Friday May 18, 2012 from 4-7 PM.
This is a two loop run course, (or one loop walk) in beautiful Arlington Cemetery, the resting place of Upper Darby’s beloved band director, Brad Schoener.
Along the course, runners and walkers will be treated to live music by some of Brad’s students and friends. After the race enjoy more live music right across the street at the Upper Darby Performing Arts Center at the Music Marathon to benefit the Brad Schoener Fund.
Participation in this event has grown steadily over the last three years. We encourage everyone to register EARLY to guarantee your slot as we may sell out by race day!
